With a length of 854 km and a catchment area of 122,000 km˛ in the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany, the Oder is one of the largest European rivers.
32 million inhabitants live in the Oder catchment area and the bordering regions.
The Oder riverscape, which has many near-natural areas, is characterised by both periods of drought and flooding events. The 1997 „flood of the century“ showed the necessity for concerted action with the purpose of avoiding flooding damage.
Here, OderRegio provides an important contribution in that it makes available the information and decision-making bases which were jointly developed by Czech, German and Polish professional authorities and experts.
The project results (menu item Results) are incorporated in the OderRegio Final Report and the Action Programme contained therein. This provides a comprehensive overview of the measures for flood protection which have been planned in the three countries.
Information and decision-making bases were generated in several sets of maps (menu item Maps)). The Oder Atlas depicts cartographically the flooding hazard and possible flooding damage along the major part of the Oder valley. The Oder Atlas is also extended by catchment-wide map sets of current land use and water management.
Brochures on specific themes have been produced (menu item Information) which are directed towards the affected population or towards the expert public. Here, the results are displayed for a wider audience in a manner intelligible to all.
